Raphael Mechoulam was one of the first researchers to identify CBD.

We know humans have had a relationship with cannabis for thousands of years. However, it was not until 1963 that Raphael Mechoulam, an Israeli scientist, found the molecular structure of CBD. Mechoulam is known for his extensive research on cannabis. In 1992, his research group found anandamide, an endocannabinoid that activates brain CB1 receptors. It is part of a brain receptor that regulates appetite, mood, pain perception and immune function. He believed CBD contained a multitude of therapeutic applications.
